Lauren Daniels joined the firm in 2003 and is presently a senior litigation associate. She specializes in medical malpractice matters and appellate work, and represents nurses in disciplinary actions instituted by the NYS Office of Professional Discipline. Prior to joining Garson DeCorato & Cohen, Ms. Daniels was a Senior Legal Specialist with the New York City Law Department’s Office of Corporation Counsel, Medical Malpractice Division. Anna Schwartz is a senior associate at the firm, where she handles complex medical malpractice matters, professional disciplinary hearings, and insurance coverage issues. Prior to joining the firm in 2003, Ms. Schwartz was a senior associate at a New York City medical malpractice defense firm where she gained a special focus in obstetrical malpractice cases. She interned at New York City Health & Hospitals Corporation as well as the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York. Sara Moutal joined the firm as an associate in 2003. Her practice is concentrated in the defense of hospitals and physicians in complex medical malpractice litigation. Prior to joining the firm, she interned for the Honorable Robert Gigante, Supreme Court, Kings County, as well as for the Legal Aid Society, Juvenile Rights Division. Education Bar Admissions
Joe Swart has been an associate attorney with the firm since 2004, specializing in all aspects of medical malpractice litigation. Before joining the firm, Mr. Swart was an Assistant District Attorney in the Kings County District Attorney’s Office, where he spearheaded long-term criminal investigations into narcotic and firearm trafficking cartels. His investigations received attention from national media, including Court TV, The New York Times and HBO. Mr. Swart is also a recurring guest commentator on Court TV (TruTV). He has provided expert legal analysis of high profile criminal cases, including the trial of NBA standout Jayson Williams (2004), Scott Peterson (2004) and pop star Michael Jackson (2005). Judith Priolo clerked at the United States Federal Bankruptcy Court for the Honorable Cornelius Blackshear prior to joining the firm. She was named an associate in 2004 after receiving her Juris Doctor. She specializes in the defense of high exposure medical malpractice actions. Education Bar Admissions
Brian Dunphy joined the firm in October 2005. His practice is concentrated in the defense of physicians and hospitals. Additionally, he represents clients in commercial and residential real estate matters, as well as trusts and estates. Prior to joining the firm, he was an associate and trial lawyer at a New York City firm, where he defended all aspects of automotive and property claims as well as commercial transactions, real estate, and trusts and estate matters. Robert Applebaum joined the firm in 2004 and currently serves as a Senior Associate on all matters pertaining to medical malpractice. Prior to joining the firm, he served as an Assistant District Attorney in Kings County, where he managed and tried Domestic Violence, DWI, drug offenses and various other criminal matters. Melissa Cohen joined the firm as an associate in 2006. Her practice is concentrated in the defense of hospitals and physicians in complex medical malpractice litigation. Prior to joining the firm, she was an associate at a prominent New York City defense firm. Anthony Lugara joined the firm as an associate in 2007. His practice is concentrated in the defense of hospitals and physicians. Prior to joining the firm he was a litigation associate at a law firm servicing the construction industry. Education Bar Admissions
Kari Merolesi is a senior associate at Garson DeCorato & Cohen. She has been practicing in the medical malpractice field since 2002. Ms. Merolesi defends physicians and hospitals in brain damaged infant cases, as well as other complex medical malpractice actions. Prior to that, she was an advocate for the rights of abused and neglected children at the Administration for Children’s Services. Education Bar Admissions
Naureen Khan joined the firm in 2007 as an associate. Her practice is concentrated in medical malpractice defense and health law. Prior to joining Garson DeCorato & Cohen, she worked for an insurance defense firm in Massachusetts. Education Bar Admissions
Susan McNamara joined the firm in 2007 as an associate. She comes to the firm after practicing in New Jersey for four years. Her prior experience involved the litigation of medical malpractice, products liability, automobile, premise liability and claims against public entities. Susan has also arbitrated automobile liability matters and brought appeals in New Jersey state court. Education Bar Admissions
Brian Axt joined the firm in 2007 as an associate. His practice is concentrated in the defense of medical malpractice matters. Prior to joining the firm, he worked for the New York City Law Department, where his practice focused on the defense of the agencies of the City of New York in civil litigation matters. Erin Hargis joined the firm in 2008 as an associate. Her practice is concentrated in the defense of medical malpractice matters. Prior to joining the firm, Ms. Hargis was a felony trial assistant at the Kings County District Attorney’s Office. While at the District Attorney’s Office, Ms. Hargis tried numerous cases successfully on behalf of the citizens of Kings County. Tania Ali joined the firm in 2007 as an associate. She is involved in the defense of Physicians and Hospitals and other Health Law-related matters Education Bar Admissions Robert A. Gross Mr. Gross comes to Garson DeCorato & Cohen with extensive litigation experience. Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Gross was an Assistant State Attorney in Miami Dade County, Florida. As a member of the Career Criminal Division he tried over forty felony cases in front of a jury. In law school, Mr. Gross clerked for Eastern District Federal magistrate Judge Cheryl Pollak. Mr. Gross’ legal career began as a New York City Police officer and gained extensive courtroom exposure during his nine year tenure. Education Bar Admissions
